Chancellor, West Africa Theological Seminary, an affiliate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Dr. Samuel Uche has deplored the lackadaisical attitude of Nigerians to government-owned institutions, saying this is why public universities are in deteriorating conditions.

Uche who commended the private institutions for their delivery however lamented that their fees are exorbitant.

The Prelate of Methodist spoke at the 28th convocation of the institute held at its headquarters in Lagos.

He said: “Some universities in the country are doing well, while some are not. For instance, my first daughter spent seven years in the university to do a four- year course, it took my second daughter six years to do a four -years programme, it is only the boy that went to a private school that spent four years to do a four -year course, private schools are doing better even though their charges are exorbitant.

“People’s attitude to government things are lackadaisical, we should change our disposition to public things; we should be patriotic and build our nation to a greater height.”

Deputy Overseer, Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT), Dr. Emmanuel Oluwayemi urged the graduating students to be exemplary leaders that would move the country forward.

“The graduating class should be leaders who have servant hearts, we are tired of leaders either in public, political or religious sector who are feeding on the people and cannot identify with their needs.

“They need to know what God has called them to do and that is to serve the people by preaching the gospel of salvation and living the gospel. If we have leaders like that in Nigeria, the country would be better.”

The institution graduated 117 students with only one distinction by Nduagwuike Marcellinus.
