Committed to improving the standard of learning in their alma mater, particularly in mathematics, old students of Holy Child College South West Ikoyi, Lagos have donated mathematics clinic to the institution.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Coordinator Maths Lab Project, Mrs. Nike Awomide, said the donation targeted at enhancing teaching and learning of the subject, is also part of efforts to give back the society they benefitted from.

The coordinator explained that Maths Clinic International (MCI) is an e-learning company that is in the fore- front of technology application in the teaching and learning process of the subject in schools.

She explained that the MCI lab gives students the opportunity of practicing, in a game format in any topic in mathematics for better understanding and for facts retention.

“We are class of 79, next year makes it 40years we left this school, we wanted to do something for the school that made us, we asked the administrator what we could do and this has been a burning issue on her mind. So she asked if we would donate a maths clinic to help people who are sick in maths. We gave them new tables, chairs and tablets for 30 students for use at a time, They have started putting the lab in use and there have been improvement from the feedback we got and from the teachers.”

“Students have started doing well. Maths is no longer a subject they are afraid of, Thanks to the application, which is what we have paid. We are planning to do more in the future but we do not know what it is yet. Holy Child College has been very good to us, it really made us what we are and thank God many of us are doing well.”
She urged the students to pay attention to the teachers and maintain the facility because it costs a lot of money to put in place.

On the part of government, she added: “I am not sure the government is doing enough but what I understand is that resources are limited. I think within the limit of resources government is doing what they are able to do and it behoves on alumni associations like ours to always give back to the society that they benefited from.”
