Senate Urges FG To Immortalise Anenih. by Goldenking (m): 4:14am on November 8
Leke Baiyewu, Abuja

The Senate on Wednesday honoured the late former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Tony Anenih.

The recognition of Anenih by the Senate followed the adoption of a motion moved by members from Edo State, Senators Clifford Ordia (Edo-Central), Matthew Urhoghide (Edo-South) and Francis Alimikhena (Edo-North).

The lawmakers observed a minute silence in Anenih’s honour and resolved to send a delegation to pay a condolence visit to his family in Abuja and Uromi.

The Senate also resolved to accord Anenih “all the official burial rites due such national figures who served with such honour and diligence” and urge the Federal Government to name the National Institute of Construction Technology and Management after the deceased.

The lawmakers recalled that Anenih was one those who formed the People’s Democratic Movement, which later became the Peoples Democratic Party and won the 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections.

The motion read, “The Senate is aware that Chief Tony Anenih served in different challenging capacities as one of the foremost leaders in the party, a political colossus and a tactician.”
