The Peoples Democratic Party, Lagos State chapter, has accused the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of inducing market women with N10,000 in the name of Trader Moni so as to get their votes in 2019.

The PDP described the N10,000 Trader Moni as another form of vote-buying, and urged the people not to allow themselves to be hoodwinked by the ruling APC.

In a statement on Wednesday by its Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, the Lagos PDP chided Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo over his recent visit to certain markets in Lagos State where he gave out N10,000 cash to traders as Trader Moni.

The PDP contended that the gesture was ill-timed, saying the Federal Government’s Trader Moni empowerment scheme was “a clear action of pre-election vote-buying with the intent of buying the conscience of the traders to vote the APC in the state.”

The opposition party also described Osinbajo’s visit to Afrika Shrine as “an obvious manifestation of desperation and jitters” ahead of next year’s general elections, saying Osinbajo was not used to visiting the place.

The PDP, however, said it had “no doubt that Lagosians will not vote the APC in 2019,” adding that traders could collect the money but they should vote their conscience.

The opposition party also rejected the explanation by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, that he was not funding President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.

The PDP alleged that the fact that Buhari gave Fashola three ministerial portfolios was proof that he funded Buhari’s campaign ahead of the 2015 elections.

“This is one reason the President put Fashola, a lawyer, in charge of three hurriedly harmonised engineering ministries.

“No wonder the three sectors he is in charge of have recorded very abysmal performances,” the PDP alleged.
