Manchester United will be hopeful of continuing their recent winning form when they travel to face Juventus on Wednesday night.

After a mixed start to the season United sit seventh in the league table having already lost three times, but Chris Smalling believes two positive results this week would push United on.

"It would galvanise us," Smalling said. "Knowing that we have had some big games this month and that we have gone toe to toe and picked up good results. This month it's all about this making sure we can move up the table after some tough games."

In terms of omens for the upcoming clash, United have won their last two away Champions League matches against Juventus, scoring three goals in each win – 3-2 in April 1999 and 3-0 in February 2003.

Jose Mourinho says he was baffled by Manchester United’s slow start against Bournemouth after his side had worked so hard in their preparation for the match.

United had to fight from behind to secure another late win in the Premier League after they fell a goal down to Callum Wilson’s strike within the opening 11 minutes.

Bournemouth were unfortunate not to go into the half-time break ahead by two or three goals as United’s shaky defence was let off the hook.

Chris Smalling sends Man City and Juventus warning
Chris Smalling believes results against Juventus and Manchester City next week would galvanise Manchester United after their mixed start to the season.

Jose Mourinho’s side travel to Turin to face Serie A giants Juventus on Wednesday before the Manchester derby at the Etihad on Sunday and despite recent performances Smalling believes the team has what it takes to go there and win.

“I think we started the game against Juventus a bit in awe,” Smalling said following United’s 2-1 win at Bournemouth. “We were off the pace and they were on the front foot.
